How Has Bath Mind Responded to the Covid-19 Pandemic?

Throughout the coronavirus pandemic, Bath Mind have expanded their services under the principles of Live, Learn and Share, in order to better support the community during difficult and unprecedented times.

Live: This encapsulates the charity’s services in housing, community support and welfare benefits appeals. Their new crisis telephone line, Breathing Space, was launched in March as a direct response to the pandemic. As of Monday 12th October 2020, Breathing Space has been up and running for 181 days, supporting 198 clients, having taken 978 crisis calls and helping to prevent 108 suicides.

Learn: Aiming to provide preventative training for the community, including Mental Health First Aid and new training workshops that focus on keeping mentally well while working from home. Curated with expert trainers, the training supports those adapting to a new way of working and incorporates tips to deal with isolation and finding the work life balance at home.

Share: Encapsulating the array of activities and projects within the charity’s Wellbeing Service, as well as collaborative wellbeing projects in the community. Bath Mind’s community groups have been adapted to ensure that the vital service is continued to prevent isolation during the pandemic, with many groups moving to an online format. The Food For Thought Group offers an opportunity to learn new cooking skills and find out more about nutrition for wellbeing. Alongside individual calls and emails, there is a weekly Zoom group for people to share their experiences, along with a cookery quiz each week. The Food For Thought Group also shares recipes, cookery tips, photos and quizzes on Facebook too.

From crisis telephone support to befriending, community services, supported-living and mental health first aid training, Bath Mind is there for the people of Bath and North East Somerset.
