What Does Move On Do?

They offer a range of services that people the opportunity to gain confidence, qualifications, skills and work experience.

Many of the people Move On work with have low confidence; little or no work experience; poor physical or mental health; experience of care; experience of the criminal justice system; or are in recovery from addiction.

While their services are as diverse as the individuals they support, their aim is simple – to offer everyone an equal chance to reach their full potential, no matter what barriers they face.

Building Brighter Futures

Their Building Brighter Futures employability training gives 16-21 year olds the opportunity to gain:

  • · Practical training and work experience in a wood workshop

  • · Certified manual handling training

  • · CSCS card, essential to work on construction sites

  • · CV and interview practice

  • · Support to move into further education, training or employment

  • Training for Work

Their Training for Work programme gives people aged 16+ the opportunity to gain:

  • · Practical training and work experience in a busy warehouse

  • · A range of industry recognised qualifications, including manual handling, health and safety, and SQA qualifications

  • · CV and interview practice

  • · Support to move into further education, training or employment

Mentoring

They match volunteer mentors to young people aged 14-25 to support them to achieve personal goals, increase their confidence and build their positive social networks.

Mentors and young people meet once a week to take part in an activity together. The activity could be learning to play guitar, taking an art class, or going to the gym.

A trusted and consistent adult in a young person’s life can support them in taking part in new experiences, developing their skills, and increasing their confidence.

Befriending

They match volunteer befrienders with young people aged 16-25 who are making the transition from living in supported accommodation to living independently in a private rented tenancy.

Befrienders and young people meet once a week to do something together in the local area (for example, meet in a café for hot chocolate, visit an art gallery, etc.).

The emotional and social support a befriender provides can help a young person feel more comfortable and confident during what can be a difficult life transition.

Literacy and numeracy service

Their literacy and numeracy service helps young people and adults feel more confident in their reading, writing, spelling, number work, IT skills and oral communication.
