What Does Women’s Work Do?

Women’s Work provides holistic and person-centred support to the most vulnerable and disadvantaged women and their families from across Derbyshire, and gives them the essential skills to make healthier and empowered choices to live a happier life.

The charity was founded in 2003, originally to support the street sex workers in Derby City but it was quickly recognised that their families also required support. The charity has evolved and grown exponentially in the last 21 years and has added many projects to its portfolio, including a child contact centre reconnecting separated families, supporting women in the criminal justice system, providing programmes and workshops such as the Freedom Programme which supports women who have experienced abuse as well as a dedicated counselling service to address trauma.

In the last year alone Women’s Work helped over 1,500 individuals.

- 595 women were supported with Domestic Abuse and Rape

- 415 women were supported and reported improvement in their Mental Health issues

- 296 women engaged in the Domestic Violence Freedom Programme

- 92 women were supported with Finance, Benefit & Debt issues

- 109 women with complex needs (homelessness, sex work & drug addiction) were supported on the Outreach service

- 74 separated families were reconnected via the child contact centre

- 154 food parcels and 69 toiletry parcels were distributed
