What does School in a Bag do?  


School in a Bag is a UK-based educational charity, sending SchoolBags filled with stationery and eating utensils to disadvantaged children around the world. As a donor, you fund a SchoolBag (costs include all the contents and shipping), plus they are individually numbered so you get to find out exactly where in the world your bag has gone. More often than not, donors are able to learn details and see an image of the beneficiary of their SchoolBag showing full transparency of the donation.  

 

What Are SchoolBags?


A SchoolBag is a simple solution, each filled with essential resources that will enable a child to write, draw, colour, calculate, express themselves, eat, drink and above all, learn. A typical SchoolBag contains: pencils, biros, colouring pencils, a maths set, ruler, pencil case, 6 exercise books, a water bottle, a LunchBox with Spork and a hygiene kit which includes a flannel, soap, toothbrush and toothpaste. 

 

Why SchoolBags are Important


By a child receiving these items, it means they can attend school with all the equipment they need – often impossible due to lack of money or losing all they own after displacement from their home or country. They know through working closely with their overseas partners, that by receiving a SchoolBag, attendance goes up at a dramatic rate (especially with girls), and from there, grades go up and further education becomes a much more achievable goal.  

So many of these children aspire to be teachers and doctors; to better theirs and their families’ lives, but without an education this is often not possible. If they, through their work of fundraising for the money to provide the SchoolBags and their partners’ work in the countries they work in, can get them to the children who need them most, then they can help make this a reality. 

To date over 150,000 SchoolBags have been distributed to children in 56 countries, but over 250 million children around the world don’t get to attend school. They aim to help as many of these children as they possibly can and with your help, they can achieve so much more.
