HorseWorld Trust LogoHorseWorld is an equine rescue charity based in Bristol. Their mission is to save the lives of abandoned, neglected and mistreated horses, ponies and donkeys, rehabilitate them and give them the chance of a happy, healthy life.

About the Charity

Founded in 1952, HorseWorld currently cares for more than 100 horses, ponies and donkeys on the farm and is on hand to offer advice and support to carers of over 200 more, who have been rehomed on a loan scheme throughout the South-West.

The charity was originally formed to rescue working horses who were being sent to slaughter because of vehicles and machinery taking over their roles. Although there are few working horses left now, the demand for HorseWorld’s work has never been greater. Record numbers of horses across the country are being abandoned, cruelly treated or neglected meaning the rescue charity is always busy.

Rehabilitation can take years, but each horse is assessed on an individual basis and rehabilitated accordingly. The aim is to eventually find them a loving home on the loan scheme where they will be taken care of for the rest of their lives.

Educational Programmes & Open Days

The charity also runs an educational programme for children who are outside of mainstream schooling. HorseWorld’s unique Discovery Courses are an outdoor equine facilitated learning program for vulnerable and disadvantaged children who struggle to thrive in a classroom environment. Working with the rescued horses can have dramatic positive effects on a young person’s behaviour and ability to learn.

HorseWorld holds Open Days throughout the year where the public can visit the working farm. During 2020, these had to be cancelled but a Virtual Open Day will be hosted via the HorseWorld Trust Facebook page on Saturday 25th July where viewers from all over the world will be able to see the charity’s work for themselves.

HorseWorld carry out their vital animal welfare work 365 days a year, and this is funded by voluntary donations. To find out more and donate, please visit
