Weston Hospicecare Charity LogoWeston Hospicecare has been looking after those who are ill as well as their families since 1989 to ensure that those who are suffering have a chance of quality life towards the end of their life. The charity provides care to people in North Somerset, Sedgemoor and Weston-super-Mare.They not only offer emotional and physical help, but ensure that the patients’ mental and spiritual well-being needs are also met. They support loved ones during and post bereavement where specialised support staff ensure that they are treated with dignity and respect.

The History of Weston Hospicecare

As the need to treat people with life-limiting illnesses was discovered in the late 80’s, the community and medical professionals began the campaign, and shortly after receiving a large amount of aid in the early 2000’s, they purchased Jackson-Barstow House and are still operating from there today.

They have expanded to a 10-bed inpatient unit, and have a team of 10 community nurses who Travel across North Somerset to help those well enough to live at home but are in need of occasional support. Their always improving services now also consist of a Family Support team as well as a team of physios and complementary therapists.

The upkeep and support of the Hospice costs over £4.2million every year, and with only 20% being provided by the government, the charity needs your help to raise over £3.3million to cover the outstanding amount. Their large number of volunteers help the fundraising team in their projects, assist in the charity shops of the organisation as well as support the clinical team where they often become a companion to patients, help with the running of the bereavement groups as well as offering practical help to those in need. The Hospice is indebted to their over 700 volunteers as their selfless attitude and consistent contribution is how Weston Hospicecare can move forward so rapidly.
