Kidscape - The Anti-Bullying Charity That Truly Helps

Kidscape Logo

Kidscape works directly with children and families who are experiencing bullying. The charity is committed to using the power of education in order to change lives and support teachers and those who work with children to help prevent and respond to bullying. They work in England and Wales, providing workshops for children and families, which teach confidence and assertiveness skills to help tackle a bullying situation. After attending a Kidscape ZAP Anti-bullying workshop, 95% of children felt better about themselves and 98% felt more able to deal with a bullying situation. In the longer term, 90% of children experienced an improvement in their mental health and three quarters of them experienced less bullying.

Kidscape’s vision is simple. They want all children to grow up in a world that’s free from bullying and harm, alongside adults who keep them safe as well as help them to reach their full potential. Their mission is to provide advice, training and practical tools to children, families, carers and professionals, in order to prevent bullying and protect young lives.

Why is Kidscape’s Work Important?

According to research from the Department for Education, at least one child in every class is bullied on a daily or weekly basis, with 6% of children experiencing bullying every day in the UK - equivalent to one child per classroom. Bullying is defined as “the repetitive, intentional hurting of one person or group by another person or group, where the relationship involves an imbalance of power.” It takes on many forms, such as verbal, physical, emotional, or cyberbullying, and in a lot of cases it can be a combination of these. It has a significant impact on a child’s self esteem and mental health, as well as their relationships and education. By law, bullying is a child protection issue, and we all have a legal duty to keep children safe from bullying and harm.

For young lives, bullying is devastating. It can result in anxiety, depression, self harm, and even suicidal ideation in children who experience it, with these effects lasting into adult life. Ultimately, this can affect academic achievement, relationships, and long term physical and mental health.

Kidscape gives hope and help to thousands of children and families every year, and they work with communities throughout England and Wales to help keep children safe.

Impact of Their Work

Kidscape have a five main ways to reduce the impact made by bullying and harm:

- Building support communities.

- Reducing loneliness and isolation.

- Promoting positive relationships.

- Supporting wellbeing and resilience.

- Helping children to recognise and respond to bullying behaviours.
