BulliesOut LogoBulliesOut was established in May 2006 and has since become one of the UK’s most dedicated and ambitious anti bullying charities. In addition to their interactive workshops and training programmes, the charity provides support to thousands of young people every year, with the mission of inspiring and empowering them to overcome bullying and achieve their potential.

Despite the common views that it’s “part of growing up,” bullying can and does have devastating effects on mental health and emotional wellbeing. Affecting 1 in 2 young people and 1 in 3 adults, bullying has the potential to cause an unimaginable amount of distress, including mental health conditions such as anxiety and depression.

What Services Do BulliesOut Provide?

BulliesOut provides a number of interactive workshops and training programmes that work on building awareness, empathy and positive peer relationships, as well as prevention of bullying. Their workshops are there to challenge attitudes and behaviours as well as to explore the feelings and consequences of bullying, as well as helping individuals to develop their confidence. The charity works not just with young people, but also with parents and professionals too.

Training

This is a dedicated training programme for parents and all professionals who look out for young people’s wellbeing (teachers, youth workers, counsellors etc). These workshops are designed to give a clearer understanding of bullying.

Schools

BulliesOut offers a number of different programmes within schools. This includes PSHE workshops that work to help children to identify types of bullying, as well as reinforce the importance of reporting it and ways they can do so. In addition, they provide youth engagement programmes including:

Peer2Peer - A mentoring programme designed to encourage students to support each other and build confidence. It helps to break down barriers between different year groups and also provides mentors with transferable skills for life, as well as enabling low level school issues to be dealt with.

Playground Pals - Aimed at year groups 4 to 6, designed to encourage happier and safer playtimes where everyone can feel included.

E-Mentoring

BulliesOut also provides an E-Mentoring service which is there daily to provide support for individuals affected by bullying. This is a flexible and accessible service that is designed to encourage open and honest conversation without the added pressure of the nerves that can come with face to face contact, particularly when dealing with sensitive topics.

Workplace Training & The Speak Out Campaign

With 1 in 3 employees reporting that they've been bullied at work, and over 18 million work days lost due to bullying, this can result in an unhappy and unproductive workplace. BulliesOut know this, which is why they also offer workplace training programmes to educate and inform workers and employers. Their Positive Behaviour in the Workplace programme is there to educate employees on the fundamentals of workplace bullying and harassment, while Dealing Effectively with Bullying and Harassment increases the understanding for those with managerial responsibilities in the workplace, and covers topics such as legislation and how to implement an anti-bullying policy within the organisation.

It’s important to highlight the fact that bullying doesn’t just happen in schools, which is what BulliesOut are doing with their Speak Out Campaign. This encourages businesses to promote a safe and happy work environment that is free from bullying and respectful to all workers.
