What Does Oakleaf Do? 


 

Oakleaf Enterprise is a mental health charity providing work-related training, employment guidance and coaching, wellbeing activities and counselling services to adults throughout Surrey. Based in Guildford, Surrey for 25 years, Oakleaf aims to transform lives and build new futures with adults managing their mental health. 

Oakleaf is currently supporting over 400 individuals, and in the last financial year a total of 912 local people accessed their services – the highest number in their twenty-five year history. The charity supports clients to improve their mental health, remain out of hospital, find employment and positive focus in community settings.



 

What Services do Oakleaf Provide? 


 

Oakleaf provides three categories of support for people aged 16-67: wellbeing activities, employment guidance and training, and one-to-one support. 

Their free wellbeing activities and courses encompass a wide variety of options throughout the year ranging from physical (yoga, fitness, football) to creative (art therapy, photography, choir) to emotional (support groups, mindfulness) and practical (literacy tutoring, budgeting). These sessions aim to build confidence and wellbeing, reduce social isolation and teach new skills.

Oakleaf offers one-to-one employment support to guide clients through the job application process, from helping with initial searches to CV writing and interview prep, and into the first six months of a new role. In addition, their free work-related training enables clients to gain qualifications and practical experience in garden maintenance and IT. 

Oakleaf’s 1:1 support includes their counselling service, which is delivered by 22 part-time counsellors. There is unprecedented demand for this counselling, predominantly resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic. They also offer ‘check in & chat’ emotional support calls weekly to those who are on the counselling waiting list. Oakleaf also hosts the Guildford Safe Haven and Young Adult Safe Haven, evening drop-in services available 365 days a year for those close to or experiencing a mental health crisis, in partnership with another local charity and the NHS. 

Oakleaf works with their clients to get them into training and help them to learn new skills, but they also help them to put those skills into practice. Oakleaf Gardening is a service provided to the public by those training with Oakleaf, and helps their clients to complete their gardening training. They offer a range of services such as maintenance, grass cutting, hedge trimming, plant advice, garden clearance and hanging baskets. Supporting these services helps people with mental health issues to live well and learn new skills.
