Who Are Age UK Bristol?

Age UK Bristol is a local charity, established over 25 years ago to support older people aged 55+ years. We exist to improve the quality of life and promote the independence of all older people living in Bristol. We want to ensure that everyone in Bristol can love later life, by supporting and empowering older people, helping other organisations to work together and championing the interests of older people in the city. We offer a wide range of services delivering practical support and wellbeing activities. We also provide leadership to the voluntary sector working with older people in Bristol.

What Services to Age UK Bristol Provide?

Our flagship service is Information & Advice, where they support around 2,000 people a year to receive the benefits and advice they need. We help with all presenting issues and help to navigate the benefits system. We will signpost, fill out forms and help with any appeals. Last year, they raised an additional £1.5M in benefits for older people in Bristol. This is money for older people to spend as they need, maybe heating or food costs, or a cleaner or gardener to help them live in their home for longer.

We provide day services for people living with dementia and other long-term health conditions in Withywood, south Bristol. The day service offers fun activities like singing, art, gardening and games, so there is something for everyone. We offer carers respite while their loved one is in a fun and caring environment. We also offer home support for people in their own home. We can do activities together, do something out in the community together, or help with light duties around the house. This is a flexible respite offer to carers.

Our LinkAge service provides social and physical activities in the community to keep people as active and social as they want to be. We offer social cafes, Art Club on Zoom, and tai chi in the park. Their Matinee Mingles and FAB Cafes offer an opportunity for people all over Bristol to come together and socialise. FAB cafe meetups in a variety of Bristol locations and surrounding areas and Matinee Mingles allow over 60s who would usually attend the theatre alone, to meet others before a show in the Piano Bar next to the Hippodrome.

Anyone over 50 can be a free member of their Friends Ageing Better Community and find out about all of the local events and activities available. You can sign up on their FAB Services page.
